This is perhaps the stupidest and most shameful question I could think to ask, but the more I think about it, the more I want an answer.

Ive had an eating disorder now for over 10 years.  I was diagnosed with anorexia (purging type). While my weight has fluctuated all over the scale, they never diagnosed me with bulimia, which leads me to my most embarrassing question (only because I should know this by now!):

I have always thought bulimics to be much like myself, only with their weight in the average range. The more I think about this, the more it doesnt make any sense. To have a weight in the average range (for me) would mean eating a lot more than i currently do. However, whenever I eat more food, the urge to binge disappears, and I only have to fight the urge to purge.

Do bulimics eat regular meals AND binge and purge? Or do they eat regular meals and purge those meals? I guess I always assumed that bulimics would restrict their eating (like me), then binge and purge....but doing this would lead to an anorexic weight.

So now I am totally confused as to what bulimia really is.  Perhaps I cannot understand it because my own eating disorder is such a mix of the two that I cannot even separate them in my mind to understand them individually. Much in the way I cannot understand anorexics who dont binge and purge.

I know this question seems basic, but I could not find any information on the eating PATTERNS of bulimics.  The criteria for bulimia simply talks about binging and purging, not what they do with the time in-between.
