I've wondered about the role race plays in the devlopment of eating disorders quite a bit, and I was wondering what you guys thought.
How many of you guys here aren't white females?
I know that these articles say that girls with Latin and African-American backgrounds are less likely to develop eating disorders because voluptuous bodies are considered more attractive, but I was wondering if you guys think this is the actual cause?
After posting this I decided to look through the memories, and there was this: http://www.livejournal.com/community/ed_ucate/92432.html
I see that there are quite a few of you here who aren't white females. A couple of comments in this post eluded to family treatment? The article I posted above also talked about class structure and eating disorders, so I'm going to change my question a little bit.
For those of you who aren't white females, what kind of family did you grow up in? Do you think your class, education, location, and family had a major impact on the development of your eating disorder?
I guess you can answer this if you are a white female as well, I'm curious.
