(no subject)

Ok, for those who don't know, Yom Kippur is the Jewish day of atonement. It was on Sunday night to Monday, and traditionally, we're supposed to fast and not do any work of any kind. Being a humanist, nobody in my family fasts. When my friends ask me why not, I sometimes have trouble explaining why I don't fast.

According to secular humanists, a sin includes anything against any other person or against yourself (or humanity in general). This means that fasting and restricting in such a way that it endangered my life would be considered a sin.

Therefore it would be downright stupid for me to fast to absolve this sin.

But it brings me to my question - and you can answer according to theology/religion etc, or just whatever happens to pop into your head - is having an eating disorder a sin?
