Also, what about films? I don't think I've ever seen a film about someone with an eating disorder in the mainstream media, unless it was a "made for tv" movie on the Women's Network.
I find that there's a problem in how eating disorders are portrayed in the media. Most people know of "anorexia" and "bulimia" and usually look down on such disorders, or associate them with celebrity lifestyles, but if you mention compulsive overeating, orthorexia or pica, they have no idea what you're talking about. ED is almost too touchy of a subject for "normal" people to understand - then again, do we really want them to understand? Or do we just want them to think before they speak?
I decided to ask about this because I'm thinking of compiling a mix cd with different perspectives on ED. I'm also planning on writing a short information zine on ED to hand out to the people I love + my community as well. So, help me out! What do you think?
