The reason is that I'll restrict like crazy all week and then have binge/purge fests on the weekends. Both are humiliating and unhealthy, but its the binging that gets me. As I carry my basket of binge foods around the grocery store I feel like everyone's staring. When I get to the checkout counter, the cashier often says something like, "having a big party, huh." Or, "I don't know how you stay so thin with all that junk food." Or, its the opposite. I go to the grocery store and stock up on laxatives, diet pills, apples, bottled water, diet coke, and some green tea. Then the cashier says something like, "you don't need to be on a diet!" Or, "that stuff is so bad for you!" The worst is when all I get is "the look." Like there's something wrong with me.
Lately, I try to use the self-check out if I can, but not all stores have them. Yes, my eating patterns are messed up, but can't I have some privacy about what I eat without a cashier making a loud comment?
Food (or lack there of) is a safe haven, I'd like to deal with it without the extra humilation.
